A chimpanzee can recognize a face, just like a human.
The skill inherited from mutual ancestors.

A human recognize faces faster and a little different way than others. Before this has been kept only ours feature, but now is shown that a chimpanzee can do it as fast as human.
Thing became clear when japanese Masaki Tomonaga and Tomoko Imura teach three female-chimpanzee looking for example different sorts of cars, bananas and faces among other pictures. Chimpanzee found specific faces faster than other pics.

The wrong way round, face is not visible.
A human face recognizing is based on whole fast recognizing, and same seems to apply also with chimpanzee. Just like us, chimpanzees didn't recognize face as well when pictures is wrong way round. Hiding also eyes, nose and mouth made slower performance.
Instead changing the imagine black and white didn't affect face recognizing.
Headaches caused researchers when chimpanzees founds bananas as quickly as faces in pictures. But even when chimpanzee found bananas as quickly as faces, it wasn't whole same thing that, how they found face and recognize it.
When pictures changes black and white bananas like disappeared. So they understand that bananas easy recognizing was only because the yellow color.

A human win macaque
unexpectedly chimpanzee recognize human-faces as well as own species faces.
Te phenomenon is unlikely to explain only that, that a test-animals was been dealing a lot with their nurses. Japan-macaques faces they recognize weakly, even this monkey specie lives next to their cage. Chimpanzee react slower to macaque-faces than human-baby faces, even they have never seem baby before.
Whether it the people or species. chimpanzee recognize faces better front of them than imagine taken from the side. This means that eye contact is one of the factors, which raises faces to chimpanzee known. Same thing is known about with the humans.
"Those results should be taken into account, when discusses the development of social intelligence. Both of those species may exploit the knowledge of the faces the same way." estimate Kyoto University primate research institution working Tomonag research release.
